MPS Portland Phoenix has been a member club of the Super Y League since the clubs creation in 2009, serving now in 2 years of competition. The Phoenix are Maine's sole representative in the Super Y League, and offer the states most committed players the chance to continue high level competition throughout the summer months.

What is the Super Y-league?

The Super Y-League is an elite level platform that is the first step for developing youth soccer players in North America. Affiliated with US Soccer, the league is designed for talented youth players destined for professional or international careers. Portland Phoenix Super Y teams will benefit from the same commitment to excellence that will be installed on our Super 20/PDL Team, it is an essential step to a youth player’s “Path to the Pros.”

How are the squads selected?

If a player from our MCU Elite teams wishes to play in the summer, they will be automatically added to the roster. However those who are not part of the club or are with our SZ Phoenix or MCU "Premier" teams, there will be opportunities to tryout for the age specific teams.

Can I take part even if I don't play for MCU or SZ Phoenix?

Absolutely. We are committed to providing every player in Maine the chance to play at the highest level available. We would encourage all players to come to tryouts.

Which Clubs compete in the Super Y-League?

Over 100 clubs throughout North America compete annually for a National Championship. In 2009, Portland Phoenix Super Y Teams competed in the New England Region; taking on such clubs as: Black Watch SC (N.Y.), BW Rhode Island, MPS Boston, Nordic, MPS Cape Cod, BW Rhode Island, Ottawa Fury and Seacoast Utd (N.H.).

When does the Super Y Program run?

Super Y league play traditionally begins at the end of May running through to the start of August.

What is the commitment?

Once State Cup season is over, each age group will have 2 weekly events. This could be 2 practices a week on off schedule weeks, or 1 practice and 1 game depending on the teams needs. Each MPS Portland Phoenix team will compete approximately 12 Super Y League games.
